Website Troubles - Call for Donations - Updated

Tuesday 03 October 2006

Posted by Motoko-chan

Update: Thanks to the generosity of our fans, we have enough to pay for another year of hosting! Thank you to all who donated.

If you were considering donating, you are still welcome to. All donations beyond hosting expenses will be used to pay for copies of the manga we scan and for future hosting bills.

Short news:

If we don't get $40 in donations by October 20, we lose hosting.

Long news:

Yesterday I was contacted by CGoten concerning the website. As you might know, he has been paying for the website since the group's start.

Unfortunately, he cannot continue doing this, especially as he has left the group. The problem is that we do not have enough donated funds to pay the upcoming bill.

The website is paid on a yearly basis, and the bill is up on October 22. Right now our donated funds are about $40 short of covering our hosting bill.

I hate having to beg, but we are in need of donations to cover this shortfall. If you can donate, please do so. I would hate for this website to go away. (Remember that PayPal takes 30 cents plus 3% of transactions, so $2 is the lowest amount that would be beneficial.)

New Server

Monday 14 August 2006

Posted by Motoko-chan

If you can see this, you are viewing the site on the new server. Forums will be up in a little. They are a really large backup, and I need to stagger the restore so the system doesn't overload.

It lives! Download Archive back.

Thursday 22 December 2005

Posted by Motoko-chan

For those who remember, we used to have a way to access our releases through the web (for those without IRC access). Unfortunately, our fans usually killed the servers of the people who were kind enough to host. We wound up with no one who would dare give us any space.

Well, that day has ended. We found someone crazy enough to host all our releases. Yes, even Ichigo 100% (the title of doom for our other hosts). With many thanks to AnimeConnection, I present the new download archive. You can access our releases through the project pages.

Please reserve comments to just focus on the archive. Off-topic comments will be deleted.

New Website Feature - Styles

Tuesday 26 July 2005

Posted by Motoko-chan

I have just added a new feature to the Yanime website, the ability to change the website's look. You can see the different styles from your browser's style menu (for Opera and FireFox) or from the Style area on the sidebar. The eventual goal is to add all the old styles of the site. Our first alternate style is Yanime Yellow and Grey, our previous look.

Let me know what you think of the new feature in the comments. If you are having issues with this feature, please post them in the forum.

Note: The news articles and comment page do not support the style changer yet.

Moving our Website

Friday 08 July 2005

Posted by Motoko-chan

Update: Our move has completed. If you see this update, you are viewing this site on our new host. If you see any issues on the site, either PM me in the forums, or put a note in the comments here.

We have decided to move our website to a new host to deal with the bandwidth taken up by all our visitors. To handle the move, the forums have been placed offline, as has the poll. Comments to the news articles will be turned off right before the move.

Due to the changes we will need to make in DNS, it may take a bit for your computer to see our new host. Once the move is done, the sites will be marked so you know when you are visiting the new host.

As a new addition to our site, we have added a poll so we can get some direct feedback from our visitors. The poll is on the left of the site, just under the donate link. Our first poll is up, so go and vote!

Line up the rickshaws

Sunday 05 June 2005

Posted by CGoten

This has been up for a few days, but I figure it's time I tell everyone about it who doesn't know. We've finally got an archive back up, where you'll find more than 300 chapters of things we've translated. All of our active projects are there in their entirety, so enjoy raping the bandwidth. And hopefully this'll last much, much longer than the previous archive. We haven't set up the "Projects" section of our site to reflect these changes yet, but everything can be found at the link below.

A few words regarding the recent split up of the Ichigo 100% joint...

Thursday 14 April 2005

Posted by cccnnn

First off, I ask for posters to please refrain from leaving offensive comments to either group (Yanime or AW), or spamming the comments under obvious incognito names. We do not view AW's release of v14 negatively, as it is certainly within their wishes to continue Ichigo.

Regarding the split of the joint, the main reason was that AW had provided translations from the Chinese (fan) scanslations of the manga. Not to take anything away from AW nor their translator (Jujubix), because they are very timely and very dedicated to the project, we at Yanime felt that it was important to maintain the original integrity of the manga (i.e. the direct translations of the work in Japanese), so we proposed to break off the joint. Please do not take this statement, in any way, as antagonizing AW's translations, I am providing the objective reason for the break-up of the joint.

As a final note, we do not mind if the fans decide to download AW's releases, nor we do mind comparisons made between our releases. In fact, I welcome objective (not subjective) comparisons between our respective releases of v14, once we release it.

PS. I would like to thank AW's help in the joint, and I do feel sad at the discontinuation of the joint. I wish AW well in their aspirations in the scanslation community.

With sincerity,

-cccnnn

Return of the Download Archive

Wednesday 06 April 2005

Posted by Motoko-chan

After lots of back-end reworking, our download archive is back up. Right now, not all titles are up, but Ichigo 100%, Addicted to Curry, and D. Gray-Man are back up. Our other titles will follow shortly.

Sadly, we lost our fast US mirror (crunge). We are now down to our European mirror, so things might be a little slow for those in the US. If you can provide bandwidth to help us distribute our titles, please PM me in the forums. We are accepting mirrors for individual titles, or for our whole catalog of projects. Yanime has many popular titles, so please be sure you can handle the drain when a new chapter comes out. See the post on mirrors in the FAQ section of our forum if you are interested.

Also, we almost reached our bandwidth maximum for March. If we are to keep growing as a group and add more titles, our bandwidth usage will only increase. We would really appreciate if you donate a bit to our group. Your money will go to acquiring paper volumes of manga for our project, and for keeping our website up with the bandwidth we need to keep from going over our limit.

If we don't get enough donations, we will have to drop planned features and even existing services (like the download archives). Please help us.

Update: It looks like our only mirror is having connection issues. Please, if you can, apply to be a mirror to help us out.

Website Issues

Monday 20 September 2004

Posted by Motoko-chan

Well, it looks like the website host messed up the site again. I can't fix it because the server has a full disk. (Some other site filled the drive....)

Temporary links (until the provider fixes their issues)

Yanime Forums: http://www.yanime.com/forums/

Yanime Download Archive: http://archive.yanime.com/

UPDATE: It looks like the provider fixed the disk space problem, so we should be up and running. If you notice anything odd, or missing pages, please contact Cgoten or Motoko-chan. (It seems some of our website files were lost when the disk filled.)
